Der Titel „Modedesigner" greift für sie im Grunde genommen zu kurz. Das Designerduo bezeichnet sich selbst als „Surface Designer", also als Designer für Oberflächen jeglicher Art. Im Laufe ihrer Karriere und mit unterschiedlichen Partnern arbeiteten sie nicht nur an der Gestaltung und Erscheinung von Textilien und Schuhen, sondern auch an unterschiedlichen Objekten wie zum Beispiel Tapeten oder Automobilien. Regelmäßig unternehmen sie kreative Exkursionen in die Bereiche Architektur, Kunst oder Telekommunikation. Das Hauptaugenmerk und der unverwechselbare Stil von Wakako Kishimoto und Mark Eley zeigen sich insbesondere in den Damenkollektionen, deren farbenfrohe und außergewöhnliche Prints das Markenzeichen von Eley Kishimoto sind.
